The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is helping the Dothan Police Chief Steven Parrish investigate a custodial death in Dothan.
Police say the investigation comes from a 911 call for medical assistance in the 600 block of Price Street. They say at some point the 38-year-old patient William Earl Jackson, was restrained by police and later lost consciousness while under medical care.
Police say Jackson was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Parrish says it is standard procedure in most law enforcement custodial deaths, Chief Parrish asked the SBI to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances related to Jackson’s death.
Once the investigation is complete, a copy of the investigation will be turned over to the Houston County District Attorney. No additional information is available at this time.
