AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – Auburn Mayor Ron Anders issues statement of support for Auburn police officer Justin Sanders. Officer Sanders continues to recover from gunshot wounds suffered in the line of duty on Friday night.
We are thankful this morning that Officer Sanders is recovering from his injuries received in the line of duty last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he recovers. As a community, I know you join me in thanking him in the bravery that he and those that came to his aid displayed in protecting and serving all of us. I know his family is hurting that this happened. So are we all. We will continue to pray that his recovery is as swift as possible.
This event is the kind of thing we work daily to prevent from happening in our community. But I saw Auburn’s truest spirit in how we responded to this event. And I couldn’t be prouder of the Auburn Police Division, area first responders and our community.
Our focus now includes praying for our officer and his family as he recovers. Please respect their privacy moving forward to give them all the time that they need to heal.
Thanks to all of our first responders in the Auburn Police and Fire divisions who made us proud last night. Thanks to the men and women of the Opelika Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Lee County District Attorney’s Office, the US Marshalls and the FBI who responded so quickly and worked together so well. Last night was an example of the kind of law enforcement, and the kind of community, we have here in Auburn, Lee County, and Alabama. We work together. We help each other. We get the job done.
All of these law enforcement agencies got the job done last night. The men and women of law enforcement in this region worked together to respond to what happened and to resolve it and keep us all safe.
We thank them all.
