Auburn Police Officer shot, suspects dead following apartment fire

Update 11:57 pm: Suspect Christopher James Wallace and female wanted in connection of shooting of Auburn Police Officer have both died following apartment fire. 

The injured officer is now listed in stable condition at East Alabama Medical Center. 

Update: An AU Alert was sent out to students at 10:00 p.m. ET that shots were fired near the Vet School off Wire Road. Shots could be heard in the area. 

We’re awaiting word on if the suspect wanted in the shooting of an Auburn Police Officer was involved in the exchange of gunfire. 

An apartment in the area also reportedly caught fire. 

Officials at East Alabama Medical Center say wounded officer is “awake and doing well”

Authorities say an officer with Auburn Police Department has been shot multiple times at the Dollar General in Auburn. 

Captain Dorsey with the Auburn Police Department says the officer was alert when first responders arrived on scene. His condition is currently unknown. 

Police are looking for 38-year-old Christopher James Wallace in connection to the shooting. They believe he may be traveling in a silver Jeep Liberty with Alabama tag 6AB5267.

Authorities say he had a female with him in the car.
