Family escapes from second story window during Auburn police standoff

AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – Family members escape a dangerous situation by climbing out a second story window during a police stand-off with a man who barricaded himself inside the home after firing upon police.

On Sunday, July 25, 2021, at approximately 7:00 PM, officers from the Auburn Police Division responded to 2100 block of Wedgewood CT in reference to a domestic incident. When officers arrived at the residence they encountered a subject armed with a handgun. The subject shot at officers and they returned fire. The subject retreated into the residence and refused to exit as officers set up a perimeter around the house.

Officers were able to safely extract several family members from the residence through a second story window. After the family members were outside the residence, members of the Tactical Team were able to enter the house, secure the suspect and determine he was suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Officers, Auburn Fire Division, and emergency medical personnel immediately rendered aid before the suspect was transported to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, AL. The suspect’s condition is unknown at this time. There were no other injuries. This incident is being investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
