One man is taking local art to levels unseen…. by staring at it.

The Columbus Museum is hosting a live performance of the Patient Eye.  Internationally-known visual and performance artist Jonathan VanDyke is the center of this artistic performance.

What makes this so different? People come to watch VanDyke look at quilts. The artist is the art. He views 16 quilts from the collection, one at a time for three hours each in a 48-hour durational performance. VanDyke is quiet the entire performance and viewers are encouraged to stand or sit with him.

In collaboration with the Columbus State University Department of Art, a group of art students will work with museum volunteers and will be present to speak with viewers about the project.

VanDyke’s performance concludes on April 12 with a public dialogue with the artist and Museum curators.
