The Columbus Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosted “Dodging the Dangers” in Phenix City. It’s an interactive fair to reduce the risks for domestic violence, mental health and exploitation.

February is also teen dating violence awareness month and the ladies say this event focuses tackling those issues in the community.

“One of the things that we really want to target is having an impact in the community and I am a firm believer as is the chapter in prevention. Of course we’re always welcome to providing intervention to help when there is a problem but what we really want to do is stop the problems from happening if we can,” Tarver said.

The sorority partnered with organizations in the community that also focus on supporting girls and women to provide resources to every one that attended.

Blessings Three65 is a fairly new organization that participated in the event. The group says its mission is to uplift and empower young girls to be who they are through Christ.

“These are our blessing bags. We have feminie hygeine items, socks, different little things to give the girls when we see them just to let them know we don’t want anything from you all we want to bless you all so that they know that someone is there and that they care,” Desire Elliot said, founder/ceo of Blessings Three65.
