Columbus officers gather to remember those who paid the ultimate price for service

Local News

They gathered Tuesday afternoon at the Government Center to remember law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

More than three dozen names were read in the solemn service attended by family members and officers from across the Chattahoochee Valley.

Seven Georgia officers last year died while doing their jobs. None of those deaths were in the Columbus area.

Columbus Police Major J.D. Hawk says it is important to pause and remember those who died.

“We do it to keep in mind the sacrifice these individuals made in defense of our cities and our country,” Hawk said. “And to let their families know we don’t forget.”
