Columbus police are releasing additional details on a fatal traffic accident Wednesday morning involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and 23rd Street.
Joseph S. Locklier, a 55-year-old homeless man, died just before 7 a.m. when he was struck trying to cross the busy road.
Locklier, who suffered a stroke several years ago, walked with a cane. He was crossing Veterans, police Lt. Lance Deaton said, when he was hit by a late-model Dodge Ram truck. Locklier was coming from the west side of Veterans and had crossed the southbound lane when he was hit, Deaton said.
The driver of the truck has not been named and has not been cited or charged in the incident, Deaton said.
There were three vehicles traveling north away from downtown, Deaton said. The truck was in the far right lane on the northbound side, Deaton said. There were vehicles in the other two northbound lanes, Deaton said. Police have interviewed those drivers as witnesses, Deaton said.
“There was no contact with a second vehicle that we are aware of,” Deaton said.
