Columbus Police Sergeant arrested on allegations of Child Cruelty, other charges

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) – Columbus Police have arrested of one of their officers and ten-year veteran of the force on allegations of Child Cruelty and other charges.

Columbus police arrested Sergeant Johnny Knighten, stemming from an investigation that began on April 29th.  Police say Knighten is facing Aggravated Assault Family Violence, Influencing a witness and Cruelty to Children 3rd Degree Family Violence.

Knighten is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at Recorders Court on May 10th at 9:00 AM.  Knighten is on administrative leave without pay from the police department.

Aggravated assault family violence: $5,000

Influencing a witness: $1,500

Cruelty to children: $2,500

Simple battery: $1,000
