COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- Columbus residents have observed coyotes in the area and one of those sightings ended in the death of a beloved animal.

One News 3 viewer said she witnessed a coyote come into her yard and attack her dog, leaving the animal injured and the woman with no choice but to put it down.

Jarrod Yasenchok, owner of Jarrod’s Pest Control, said that the number of calls about coyotes in the area is currently normal, but warns that they can be attracted to a certain place if there is a food source present.

Patricia Biegler,Director of Public Works, said, “Don’t leave out food, bring the pets in, and call 3-1-1.”

Biegler said the most important advice she can give to citizens dealing with coyotes is to not approach them at all.
