COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) - An event that has taken social media by storm is on its way to Columbus.
Drag Queen Story Hour is getting mixed reaction from commenters across Facebook, and with a date scheduled in the valley for August 18, the organizers share what you can expect.
The event is exactly what it sounds like: a drag queen visiting with children and reading to them.
Local drag queen, Monica Starr, will be presenting the book "A Tale of Two Beasts" at Mildred Terry Library at 12:00 p.m. EST.
According to the DQSH website, the organization began in California, and cities across the country have joined by hosting local story hours and sharing the event on social media.
Colgay Pride decided to bring the event to Columbus.
"The thing we are trying to do is bring children story time, by children's authors, that teach them diversity, acceptance, tolerance," says Jeremy Hobbs.
Hobbs says the event is family friendly.
News Three went out in the community to seek reaction to the event. One man says he is open to different things, but he does not believe this is appropriate for children, because they are impressionable at a young age.
