Residents at Fort Benning Estates woke up this morning to find notices on their door saying they will have to leave their home. Inspections and Code Department placed eight notices on residents’ homes today saying that its use or occupancy is prohibited.
Inspections and Code Department say that they plan to come back every week to check the conditions of the homes and that today they condemned homes that have a lack of connection to a sanitary system.Rosalind Cook says she has been having sewage issues for the past couple of months.
“My bathroom got a whole hole in the floor you could smell the sewage coming through the floor coming from my residents,” Cook said.
Despite having to look into relocation options cook says seeing the inspections and code department investigating Fort Benning Estates is a sign that change is coming.
Organizations such as home for good a program of the united way of the Chattahoochee Valley plan to work with residents on their relocation.
Officials with the Inspections and Code department also tell News3 there is not an immediate deadline to move out.
