COLUMBUS, Ga. – The filming of a locally written movie will begin this summer. Uptown is just one backdrop for the locally written film, Them That’s Got, which was set in the 1950s.
It will be produced as part of Columbus State University’s film graduation and certification program through the Georgia Film Academy. Peter Bowden with the Visitor’s Bureau is excited about this being the first film written and produced in Columbus through the Film Academy.
“We feel like it’s our first step to levering what the Film Academy is going to bring to Columbus, which will basically create an identity. Columbus is a place where film can be done,” Bowden said.
Bowden says this allows Columbus to ramp up its presence in the film industry for Georgia. Them That’s Got is a $900,000 project.
Filming is expected to begin in late June or early July.
Columbus will host its first film festival this fall. It will be locally produced.
