Fort Benning hosts Uncasing Ceremony for 1st SFAB

Local News

Fort Benning welcomed home the first Security Force Assistance Brigade after a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan. Fort Benning hosted an Uncasing Ceremony for over 300 soldiers that were stationed in Afghanistan.

The first Security Force Assistance Brigade’s mission was to train, advise, assist, enable and accompany operations with the Afghan soldiers. First Sergeant Lorin Strange says this is his first time being deployed after having a family but says what him and his unit accomplished makes it worth it.

“I had to learn about field artillery and do my engineer task as well and to form with a team that we hadn’t worked together before and do so well was probably the most proud that I am about my team and myself,” First Sergeant Strange said.

First Sergeant Strange says his unit also learned to be adaptable. Not only did they work on bringing in new ideas they were able to incorporate some of the afghan’s skills into their daily trainings. A few of the new ideas that the soldiers introduced were how to treat, shoot, move and medicate when in action.
