After 72 years in business, the discount retail store Fred’s is closing 300 stores. However, USA Today reports the stores in Columbus and Phenix City will stay open.
The retail chain filed for bankruptcy Monday with about 300
locations still open. Fred’s has been losing money since 2015 and already shut down more than 200 stores earlier this year.
Liquidation sales will last for the next two months at remaining stores in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, and Texas.
