Ft. Benning Marines and Soldiers get a holiday lunch

Local News

It’s an unforgettable day for these Soldiers and Marines.  Volunteers at the warrior outreach hosted their annual Christmas lunch and horseback riding event.

“This is the 3rd time Warrior Outreach had Soldiers from Ft. Benning that are getting ready to go on what they call block leave, which is when they shut down training on Fort Benning,” says Jeff Mellinger, Volunteer at Warrior Outreach.

Laughs and secret gifts were all exchanged at the ranch. It was exciting for some soldiers as they each got a taste of riding a horse.

“All but 3 of these Soldiers, Sailors, or Marines that you see none of them have been on horses today except those 3 so this is quite an experience for all of them,” says Mellinger.

With training already underneath their belt, and with the holidays quickly approaching, it’s good for these cadets to have a little break.

“This will be an annual event for as long as Ft. Benning wants to support it with their soldiers and marines going through training so we look forward to having them out as well as all the other people that enjoy the activities,” says Mellinger.

This event was open to all military services.
