“The chase began in Phenix City with their police officers and deputies with the Russell County Sheriff’s Department joined in to assist. The chase went through Columbus and into Cusseta where the suspect hit a guard rail. It’s my understanding when our Russell County deputy and another deputy from Chattahoochee County approached the vehicle, the suspect began backing up, attempting to hit the two deputies with his vehicle. The Russell County Deputy and Chattahoochee County Deputy began firing in order to keep the suspect from running them over. The suspect was struck and the threat was stopped. The offender was transported to a local hospital, where we are told he is stable. The deputies were not injured. The case has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. “
