Students representing several branches of service were honored.

Columbus, Ga- The Carver High School auditorium was filled with proud parents and supporters of graduating seniors on Thursday who have made a commitment to serve in one of our nation's armed forces upon receiving their high school diploma.

Each recipient received a certificate that read: In grateful appreciation for the dedication, commitment and patriotism you demonstrate by your decision to voluntarily  to voluntarily pursue military service in one of the armed forces of the United States of America. JROTC member, Austin Boyd, says, he has always felt the call to serve.

"I've always wanted to serve. I never really knew about the coast guard until my dad told me about it. Then about six months later, I was swearing in," says Boyd.

Boyd is one of several graduating seniors who is joining one of the armed forces directly after graduation or is attending college or the military academy on scholarship.
