Great Wolf Lodge officially opened for business

LAGRANGE, Ga. - After much anticipation, the sixteenth Great Wolf Lodge officially opened for business Thursday.

News 3's Logan Wilber gives us a first look at the ceremony and theme park.

"And in October of this year, I'm going to bring 300 to 400 local elected officials right here to LaGrange."

The opening of the 457 room resort and water park came with a promise to fill the resort, from Georgia Commissioner of Community Affairs, Christopher Nunn.

The ceremony was set a the resort's central focus, Fort McKenzie. Water was splashing and the crowd was cheering at the thought of all the possibilities the 14 slides, lazy river and two pools can bring to their community. While some of the attractions are common at all Great Wolf Lodges, there are others you won't find anywhere else.

"We have two brand new slides, first of their kind to North America. the we have rapid racer, a tube racing slide where you're side by side in the tubes. There's three different connections in the tube where you come together as you're racing down the slide," says Director of Guest Services Allen Headley.

The water park and pools are exclusive to guests staying in the resorts suites, but there are options for the public, including bowling, a ropes course and arcade.

Vice President of Attractions and Retail Brooke Patterson says making the park accessible to the public is a Great Wolf focus moving forward. She wants everyone to feel like a part of the pack.

In order to fully staff the resort, Great Wolf Lodge hired over 700 people from LaGrange and our surrounding communities.
