Search warrants served at Russell County truck driving school, Phenix City chiropractor's office; investigations connected

WRBL Staff - (WRBL) -- Federal and state agencies are busy Tuesday serving search warrants at an Opelika truck driving school and a Phenix City chiropractors office, investigators confirm.

Alabama State Troopers are blocking the entrance to American Truck Driving Academy, Inc. along U.S. 80 in Russell County near Lamb Road. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Montgomery confirms a search warrant is being conducted at truck driving school. ALEA confirms to News 3 they are assisting in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a second search warrant is being conducted at Dr. Ken Edwards chiropractic office in Phenix City on 20th Avenue. A sign in front of his office advertises the office conducts D.O.T physicals along with neck and back rehabilitation.

The U.S. Attorney's Office also confirms to News 3 the two investigations are related. Agents with US Department of Transportation, Office of Inspector General are on the scene of the office. Agents with this agency act as the investigative arm of the DOT. The DOT regulates truck driving schools among other things.

We have left a message with the truck driving school.

Dr. Edwards responded to News 3 calls for comment to confirm the search warrant he received was to seize the records his office keeps of students from American Truck Driving Academy, Inc. However, he says the warrant did not specify why he or the school are under investigation. He adds agents never called to ask for the records before raiding his business.

Edwards says his chiropractic office will be open for regular business Wednesday.

This is a developing story. Stay with WRBL News 3 for updates.
