Heavy law enforcement presence on Toney Drive: deputy injured in stolen car pursuit

UPDATE 10:14 p.m. 12/15/21: Sheriff Greg Countryman tells News 3 around 7:45 tonight two of his deputies were attempting to stop the suspect at the intersection of Toney Drive and Wilshire.

The suspect suddenly put his vehicle in reverse striking a sheriff’s car.

The suspect then fled the scene striking the deputy in front of him in the leg.

Both deputies fired shots at the suspect’s vehicle which is described as a gray 2021 Honda Accord with a Georgia license plate.

The suspect is still on the loose.

Countryman says the injured deputy was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.


COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Law enforcement including sheriff’s deputies from the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, and unmarked vehicles have blocked off Toney Drive.

Crime scene tape has the intersection of Toney Drive and Winshire Street sectioned off.

There are eight sheriff’s deputies vehicles, and two unmarked vehicles at the scene.
