Historic Columbus has awarded $2,500 to Columbus High School senior Savannah Scott from the 2019 Patricia Jackson Howard Memorial Scholarship.
Scott is the 26th recipient of the scholarship, which was “established in memory of Mrs. Howard, a long-time volunteer and the second Executive Director of the organization (1989-1992).” The purpose of the scholarship, according to Historic Columbus, fulfills Howard’s wish to award a “graduating high school senior based on merit and need.”
The scholarship is provided directly to the recipient for the use of purchasing items needed to attend a university or college, says the organization.
“Miss Scott was selected from several applicants for her commitment to academics. She has overcome many obstacles and has achieved so much in her high school career. Miss Scott plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and major in International Business and Marketing,” Historic Columbus said in their press release.
