COLUMBUS, Ga — It’s a case of the right person in the right place at the right time.
Fire Marshal Ricky Shores says one of his fellow investigators was driving on Wynnton Road at about 10 a.m. Friday morning when he noticed smoke coming out of an apartment building’s windows.
Shores says the investigator pulled over into the 2000 Wynnton Apartment homes and called for backup when he realized one of the units was on fire.
Fire crews on the scene say they found a small fire in the unit’s bedroom and put it out quickly.
Shores says no one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Shores reminds everyone to double check their smoke detectors as the end to Daylight Savings approaches this Sunday.
