‘Tis the season of giving.
Many Americans aren’t just lining the pockets of retailers, they’re also giving from the heart
to various charity organizations.
Thomas Tighe with “Direct Relief” says it’s important to do your homework before giving to charity.
“The first step is figuring out what you, yourself care about. What speaks to you, what deserves your charitable support if you give it, and no one can answer that question but you.”
Tighe says one way to ensure your donation is sent to the right place is by going directly to the charity’s website. According to Tighe, another way to safely give is through PayPal.
“The other best way is to, because it’s the most efficient way is through the PayPal payment mechanism and it absorbs all the administrative cost so a $10 contribution means $10 received without any transactional fee, credit card charges. Facebook and PayPal giving funds have both done that for consumers which is a terrific savings for all non-profits to receive charitable gifts through those platforms.”
Tighe says by doing a little research, you’ll feel better about how your favorite charity is
putting your donation to use.
