LaFayette Police Officer facing rape charges is suspended with pay

CHAMBERS CO., Ala. (WRBL) News 3 is working to uncover more information concerning a LaFayette Police Officer who’s been arrested on rape charges by the SBI and placed on administrative leave by the police department.     

The State Bureau of Investigations confirms 27-year-old Quantavious Lakeith Lockhart was arrested Thursday, April 11th. Lockhart is facing two counts of Rape 1st Degree after being detained by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigations.  

At this time SBI agents are not releasing details of what led to Lockhart’s arrest but did confirm he was  a LaFayette Police Officer and was arrested at the LaFayette Police Department.

Searching for more information, News 3 obtained court documents relating to Lockhart’s arrest. Those court records indicate between the months January 2017 and December 2017 Lockhart is alleged to have engaged in sexual intercourse with a member of the opposite sex and the alleged victim was,  “incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless or mentally incapacitated.”

LaFayette Police Chief George Rampey confirms to News 3 Lockhart has been suspended with pay pending an investigation. Rampey will not confirm what type of job duties Lockhart was assigned too, including if he ever worked inside the Chambers Co. School System.

News 3 reached out to Chambers County Superintendent Dr. Kelli Hodge for comment on Lockhart’s arrest.  Dr. Hodge referred News 3 to the ABI (SBI) saying she did not have a comment on the arrest at this time.  

When we checked the LaFayette Police Department’s Facebook page, we saw a post from December 15th, 2018 congratulating Sgt. Qquantavious Lockhart for being named Supervisor of the Year.

According to documents the incident happened in a mobile home park in Chambers County. Lockhart lists a Valley, Alabama address.

Lockhart was booked into the Chambers County Detention Facility Thursday night, where he posted a $150,000 bond ($75,000 for each count) and was released.
