Lee Co. Sheriff’s investigators are searching for an Opelika woman who they plan to charge with murder in connection with the shooting of her live-in boyfriend.
According to a news release, deputies were called to a residence in the 5400 Block of Hwy. 29 on the evening of November 16th. When they arrived they found Johnnie Lee Forte, 64, lying on the floor. He’d been shot multiple times.
Forte was airlifted to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia where he had been undergoing treatment for his injuries. He died on Thursday, according to the release.
Investigators had signed a warrant for 1st Degree Domestic Violence Assault against Shakela Shanae Minnifield, 34, who detectives say was Forte’s live-in girlfriend. They have been searching for Minnifield ever since the night of the shooting.
Following Forte’s death, investigators plan to charge her with murder.
