News 3 confirms a body was found in an Opelika Pond on 1st Avenue Thursday morning.
Captain Bobby Kilgore, with Opelika Police, received the call that a body was in the pond across the street from the Piggly Wiggly. A passerby saw the body early Thursday morning.
However, he says it is too early to confirm any other details such as gender, race, etc. The only details Kilgore was able to share with us is that the body was clothed.
Kilgore says a boat is being brought in to retrieve the body. However, they are doing everything they can to preserve the crime scene.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris is on the scene. Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes is also on the scene.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene immediately.
The cause of death is unknown.
