LEE COUNTY, Ala.- The Lee County Sheriff’s office is searching for 23-year-old Chad Michael Shores after he escaped from custody Thursday night in the Smiths Station area on Lee Road 292.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says deputies were called out to the area just before 9 p.m. Thursday for a trespassing call. Sheriffs deputies found Shores under a mobile home and took him into custody.
While deputies were searching the area for property issues, Shores was able to activate the patrol car door while handcuffed and escape.
Sheriff Jones says the office admits that errors were made and like us, they are human. But they work very hard to ensure those mistakes do not happen again.
“We work very hard to eliminate those types of errors, but every now and then a situation slips by us and as a result somebody takes advantage of it and we end up with a circumstance where we are seeking an individual that escaped from custody,” Sheriff Jones said.
Sheriff Jones added that the office has warrants out for Shores on criminal trespassing in the third degree, escape in the third degree and theft of property in the fourth degree.
Shores is six-feet tall, average build of 170 pounds and is not considered a threat to the general public. The sheriff’s office believes he may be in the Smiths Station or Phenix City area.
