Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

MAKING HISTORY: 2nd Lt. Kayla Freeman, 1st black female pilot in the Alabama National Guard

An Alabama woman has made history as the first black female pilot in the state national guard’s history.

News outlets report  2nd Lt. Kayla Freeman graduated from Fort Rucker’s Army Aviation school in June.

She graduated from Tuskegee University in 2016 and was enrolled in the reserve officers’ training corps.

Freeman is currently at Fort Hood in Texas. She’s preparing to deploy to the middle east.
