Man accused of impersonating Muscogee County Coroner

Local News

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan is speaking out about a man he says is impersonating him.

Bryan says the man has shown up at active crime scenes posing as an official coroner. To be clear, there is only one elected Muscogee County Coroner and that’s Bryan.

Bryan tells News 3 that this isn’t the first time the man with a lengthy arrest record has posed as coroner, but he’s working with the Columbus Police Department to make sure it’s his last.

“My understanding is that he was on a crime scene last week and presented himself as working with the coroner’s office, possibly in the forensic transportation end of it, even showed a picture of a stretcher or a cot or gurney, also a van, which he supposedly transported bodies in,” says Bryan.

“I take it personal. I’m proud of my position. I’m proud of the services that I provide the citizens of Columbus and I don’t want my name or reputation slandered in any way. He better hope that they get him before I do.”

Bryan tells News 3 that authorities have identified the man along with his license plate. He also says, once taken into custody, the man could face a potential felony charge for impersonating an elected official.
