TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — Troup County residents say they were shocked and concerned after officials discovered a dead body floating in West Point Lake Saturday afternoon.
Investigators say they are ruling the 59-year-old man’s drowning accidental. Troup County Deputy Coroner Erin Hackley tells News 3 crews found Michael Damon White from Atlanta dead on arrival around 3:30 p.m. He was floating in West Point Lake in Glass Bridge Park.
White was officially pronounced dead at 4:02 p.m. that afternoon. Hackley tells News 3 White fell into the water at Glass Bridge Park.
“He was at Upper Glass Bridge at the lake access there, and he fell into the water,” Hackley says.
The man was wearing a life jacket. Officials say it’s also unclear how he got into a deep portion of the lake, but foul play is not suspected.
White’s body will not go to Atlanta for an autopsy, because the coroner’s office ruled his death an accidental drowning.
