UPDATE

A man accused of hijacking a Columbus woman’s car and kidnapping her child pleaded ‘not guilty’ in Recorder’s Court Thursday afternoon.

The mother spoke with News Three, saying she witnessed the suspect attempt to take another car.

Ki Ki Latrice took cellphone video of a man grasping the top of a white Kia on Airport thruway, and then saw him fall off onto the pavement.

“Me seeing someone hanging from a car, and the way he hit the pavement. If you get past somebody hitting the pavement and seeing the head bouncing off I couldn’t just, but now it’s a lesson learned,” says Latrice.

Columbus Police reports reveal the suspect, 23-year-old Grant Chastain did attempt to hijack that vehicle.

Latrice says when she stopped to help, Chastain got inside her vehicle and took off.

“I just want to make this clear. I did not leave my child in the car. I stood right in front of the driver’s side headlight. So, we were interacting with each other. So, instead of coming toward each other him coming towards me, he ran and got in my car.”

Police say Chastain then drove Latrice’s Honda into Harris County. Authorities say he wrecked into a Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrol car on I-185 near mile marker 43.

When the deputy exited the patrol, authorities say Chastain hopped in continuing the high speed chase into Troup County.

Chastain was arrested after a stop by the Georgia State Patrol on I-85.

During the Recorder’s Court hearing, police say Chastain had cocaine on him. They say they believe he was under the influence of “some drug”.

The judge set no bond at Thursday’s hearing.

Latrice says she is pleased with the judge’s decision.
