Megastar Janet Jackson honored with BMI Icon award in Atlanta

Local News

Singing superstar Janet Jackson was honored during a special award ceremony in Atlanta Thursday night.

What makes the BMI’s so special is they celebrate all of the behind the scenes artistry. We’re taking the singers, songwriters, producers, and publishers behind your favorite hit songs. However, to be labeled an icon — you have to do all of it. It’s no surprise the mega superstar, Janet Jackson, was honored with BMI’s annual icon award.

“My life has been saved by her music on more than one occasion.  I can honestly say that. She’s kept her voice as an artist without losing her voice as an activist. I just love her,” said Jussie Smollett Actor Recording Artist.

Teyana Taylor, our very own local talent Jade Novah, Evander Holyfield, Boosie Collins, and so many more were in attendance to honor Ms. Jackson.

The BMI’s also made sure to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin.

Hit gospel artist Tamela man had everyone on their feet as she sung, “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.
