Missing Columbus native’s family asks for help in finding him

Local News

COLUMBUS, Ga — When adults go missing, families are often told to wait it out—that adults have a right to disappear. But sometimes, families say they know better.

That’s exactly what the family of Columbus native DeCorrius Brandon Jones says.  He hasn’t been seen since October 15 when he left his Lawrenceville apartment.  His panicking family here in Columbus shares their agonizing struggle exclusively with WRBL News 3.

It’s a poster they never imaged they would see, and the face staring back at them is one they never believed would be there.

“And if we hadn’t pushed as much as we’ve been pushing, I don’t think we’d have gotten halfway to this point,” says Lasa Stringer, aunt of DeCorrius Jones.

On October 15, 20 year old DeCorrius Jones left his apartment in Lawrenceville after a verbal fight with his girlfriend.  DeCorrius’s mother and girlfriend saw him leave, without his shirt, shoes, wallet, or cell phone. They thought he had stepped out for a few minutes of clarity, but he never came back. Since then, no one has seen nor heard from Jones.

“No money, no ID. So that’s why this is so hard on us because all the lines of communication are just . . . knowing he’s walking around with ID, I mean that’s a problem.  He’s not made contact with any close friends, none of us here in Columbus. So we’re just like a needle in a haystack,” says Stringer.

His family says Decorrius is not one to walk away, especially from his family which is extremely close and stays connected.  That’s why they fear the worst.

“We’ve been through the woods searching. We’ve had his cousins out. They’ve been searching. His parents are just torn up because they can’t find him,” says Katina Harris, another of his aunts.

And they say they will not stop looking for him until DeCorrius is back home.

“I’m not going to give up. If it means every weekend going to Lawrenceville and anywhere in Atlanta to find my nephew, that’s what I’m going to do.”

DeCorrius Jones was last seen in the area of Sugarloaf Crossing Apartments in Lawrenceville wearing navy blue basketball shorts.

He’s 6’3” and weighs 250 pounds.

If you have information about him, you can contact your local police department, or you can call his aunt, Shacora Jones, at (706) 573-9025.
