More arrests come from Columbus Police Department in two-day roundup

COLUMBUS, GA (WRBL) - 72 people were arrested after a suppression detail was conducted by the Columbus Police Department's Special Operations Unit, Fugitive Squad, and Investigative Services.

The arrests made were a two-day total from last week. Members from each division were looking for people that were committing crimes and have outstanding warrants. Major J.D  Hawk tells News 3 there were 127 crimes, 23 felony arrests, 16 people arrested for violating city ordinances, recovery of firearms and 10 people arrested with outstanding warrants.

"The units get out there and the one serving the warrants are outstanding. Also, while they are out there looking for the individuals we have warrants for, they are able to observe crimes in progress, people doing the illegal activity and that's why it resulted in such high arrests," says Major J.D. Hawk, Columbus Police Department.

Hawk says there were 166 charges made within that two day total.

Men and women were arrested during the roundup and were booked in the Muscogee County Jail.
