National Council of Negro Women hold reading event for young girls

COLUMBUS, GA - Young girls in Columbus put on their tiaras and sipped tea during an event designed to show them how fun it is to read books. 

The National Council of Negro Women and Columbus Mayor's Summer Reading Program brought the tea party event to princesses at Girls Inc. Tuesday afternoon. 

The event was aimed to empower young girls to care about their education from an early age. 

The tea party also celebrated civil rights leader and American educator Mary Mcleod Bethune's 143rd birthday.
