Local News

After promising to cover $184,000 of funeral costs for victims of the tornado in Beauregard, Ala., the Poarch Band of Creek Indians followed through with their promise and delivered the money today.

Originally one of two corporations promising to help cover the burial costs after March 3’s storm, but the other company withdrew. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians stepped up to provide the help that so many families needed.

The $184,000 was given to the East Alabama Medical Center to cover the needs of the deceased, with officials from the East Alabama Medical Center to administer the funds.

“Never a doubt that they would come through. Its just another worry that the families of those 23 victims won’t have to worry about. I can’t thank the Poarch Band of Creek Indians enough for stepping up to the plate like they did and giving us that money for that,” said Harris.
