New details in death of Sumter County DA

New details have emerged in the death of a high ranking lawman in our local area.

Foul play is not suspected in the death of the Sumter County District Attorney. That's according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI says its investigation so far revealed 48-year-old Plez Hardin appears to have died from a single gunshot wound to his chest. Investigators say Hardin's body was discovered Sunday in Leslie.

The GBI says their involvement came at the request of Leslie Police Chief Bob Smith. Hardin's body was found in the driver's seat of a pickup truck on East Allen Street in Leslie. That city is in Southeastern Sumter County. Hardin's body has been sent to Macon for an autopsy.
