NEW INFO: Police identify and charge man in Lee County standoff

Authorities have identified the male suspect as 47-year-old Richard Kanion Kalar Jr., of Smith Station.

He has been charged with second-degree domestic violence. He is being held in the Lee County Detention Facility on a $15, 000.00 bond.

UPDATE 06/27/18 7:30 p.m 

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones confirms a law enforcement officer, who lives in the Heather Brook neighborhood along Lee Road 2035, witnessed the altercation between the couple as they were in their yard.

Authorities say the man appeared to be holding a rifle and fighting with his wife in the yard. Jones says the officer fired shots at the male subject. Nobody was injured.

Right now, Sheriff Jones is not naming what agency the officer is with. He also says after shots were fired, the female was able to escape and the male suspect went back into their home.

After a three hour standoff – the male subject surrendered peacefully.

He’s facing potential domestic violence charges.

Deputies have responded to a domestic dispute at a home in the Heatherbrook neighborhood, according to Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones.

Police say they received a call around 2:30 p.m. 

Jones says when deputies arrived, they received word shots had been fired before their arrival. Deputies say they found a woman with a cut to her arm.

Authorities tell News 3 that her injuries are non-life threatening.

Deputies say, the man who also lives at the home is believed to be armed, inside the house. Authorities say, they’re working to get him out of the home in a peaceful manner.

Sheriff Jones says he does not believe there is a threat to the community at this time.
