NEWS 3 NEIGHBORS: Pillows of Love

COLUMBUS, GA (WRBL) - Don't underestimate the comfort of something as simple as a pillow. That's become the trademark of a group at Wynnbrook Baptist Church in Columbus.

A group of women make gifts called 'Pillows of Love'.

It's a well-oiled machine when the ladies of the Pillows of Love ministry get together at Wynnbrook
Baptist Church.

They started making pillows in 2010 and they gave them away to folks battling cancer, diabetes, broken
bones, or those simply going through a tough time. Judy Myers was one of the first recipients the day she had surgery for breast cancer.

"I started using it and saw what a good thing it was and how much comfort it brought me. And just knowing these ladies made it and they prayed over it, it gave me a lot of comfort in that mentally, too," Myers said.

One of their missions was to make 121 Pillows of Love which are being sent to soldiers in Afghanistan. The pillows are made from donated camouflage fabric as well as donated fiberfill used for stuffing.

The fabric is carefully cut into a heart shape. Then from there, the seamstresses work their magic on the sewing machine.

The material is then pressed to remove wrinkles. From there it's over to the stuffing table where a crew of volunteers fills the hearts with love and a generous helping of cotton-candy-like stuffing.

The ladies with needle and thread then add the final stitches. As a token of love, they leave a hand-written note is tucked into the pouch of each pillow.

Jean Harron is not only a worker but she's also received Pillows of Love after several bouts with cancer. She leaves personalized a message to each soldier.

"I basically thanked them for their service, I told them because of them we're still enjoying freedom. I just love our military. I can't do enough for them," Harron says.

The mission wouldn't be complete without a prayer.

"There are people here now, as we make these pillows, they are praying for the person that's going to receive these pillows.  And that's important. Prayer is important," Myers said.

Over the years Wynnbrook's women on mission, as they are called, have given out over 2500 Pillows of Love.

"It's just something to bring a little comfort to somebody at a difficult time in their life," Myers says.
