What first appeared to be a senior prank gone too far, turns out to be much more following an investigation.
According to school officials, most of the damage was caused by individuals who do not attend Smiths Station High School. One current SSHS senior was identified as being involved and has been placed in Alternative School for the remainder of the year.
On Friday, April 27th, schools employees, and students found profanity-laced words and images spray-painted on school buses, buildings and sidewalks. The campus was littered with trash.
The Smiths Station community was outraged and in disbelief. Many parents and students reached out to News 3 saying the ‘Senior Prank’ did not represent the senior class or the school they knew. The investigation shows their instincts were correct.
School officials are working with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues. So far no arrests have been made in the case, and an approximate cost of the damage is not yet available.
