Phenix City man faces serious charges after firing shots at his ex-girlfriend

PHENIX CITY, Ala (WRBL) -- A local man faces serious charges after Phenix City Police say he fired shots at his ex-girlfriend and her relative outside of a store May 18th.

24-year-old Sidney West, of Phenix City, saw his ex girlfriend and her sister leaving the Dollar General Store on Seale Road. Officials say West was able to grab hold of the ex-girlfriend. When she was able to get free, officials say, her and her sister ran back toward the store.

Police say West fired several shots at his ex-girlfriend and her sister. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Officers say West ran from them and into a nearby neighborhood and dropped or ditched his gun. Police say they had a bomb-sniffing dog out to the neighborhood, but have not found the gun.

West is still in the Russell County Jail.
