Police say man arrested in high speed chase tried to hijack another car moments before

A man accused of hijacking a Columbus woman’s car with her child inside and leading authorities on a high speed chase is accused of attempting to hijack another woman’s car moments before.

According to Columbus Police, 23-year-old Grant Chastain attempted to hijack a white Kia Sportage on Airport thruway.

The victim tells CPD she saw the suspect walking toward Walmart on Airport thruway. She says the man then jumped in front of her car. 

The victim tells police the man then stepped over to the driver side door and pulled on the handle, so she then sped up, and the suspect grabbed on to the roof of her car and held on. 

According to the police report, the suspect fell off when the victim hit her breaks at the red light near Armour Road.

Chastain faces charges of two counts of hijacking a motor vehicle, kidnapping, and cocaine.

He is set to appear in Recorders Court at 2:00 p.m. August 30.
