AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL) – The Voice of the Auburn Tigers has gone silent with the passing of Rod Bramblett. News 3 can now confirm Rod and his wife Paula both passed away from injuries they sustained in a two-vehicle crash along Shug Jordan Parkway Saturday night.

Around 10:45 Saturday night, Auburn University confirmed via social media, Rod Bramblett, the beloved Voice of the Auburn Tigers, and his wife Paula had been involved in a serious car crash.

“Rod Bramblett, the Voice of the Auburn Tigers, and his wife, Paula, were involved in a serious car accident early Saturday evening in Auburn. We at the Auburn Family to keep the Bramblett family in your thoughts and prayers,” read the post on Auburn Tigers, the official page of AU Athletics.

Around 12:15 Sunday morning, Coroner Bill Harris confirmed the horrific news.

“The fatality accident victims in Saturday’s two vehicle collision in Auburn were 53-year-old Rod Bramblett and his wife, 52-year-old Paula Bramblett, of Auburn. Paula Bramblett died at 7:50 PM in the emergency room of East Alabama Medical Center from multiple internal injuries and Rod Bramblett, known as the “Voice of the Auburn Tigers”, died at UAB Hospital in Birmingham from a severe closed head injury,” said Coroner Bill Harris

Saturday at 6:08 pm, Auburn Police, Fire, and paramedics responded to a motor vehicle crash on Shug Jordan Pkwy at the intersection of W Samford Av.  A 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the rear of a 2017 Toyota Highlander.  A 53-year-old male and a 52-year-old female, both occupants of the Highlander, were transported to EAMC by ambulance with serious injuries. They both passed away at the hospital. Bramblett was airlifted to UAB hospital, where he died due to his injuries.  

The 16-year-old male driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to EAMC by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.  His name is not being released at this time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division.
