COLUMBUS, Ga. – Some Muscogee County School Board members feel they do not have enough access to the school district’s financial information. At a recent meeting, John Thomas of District 2 asked for more access to the school district’s financial information.
He says he’s being asked to make decisions on millions of dollars for budgeting and spending without knowing the details. Thomas requested that the board have access to the Business Plus System, which is the computer system that has financial information for the school district.
“It is possible to have remote access to detailed financial information in the actual financial software for the school district so, I brought it up at a work session and I requested to have that access,” Thomas said.
The school board voted against the request made by Thomas in a 6 to 3 vote. Opponents worried that someone might accidentally stumble across confidential information.
