Shooting suspect located hiding out in Valley, charged with Attempted Murder

LANETT, Ala. (WRBL) – Lanett police make an attempted murder arrested stemming from Thursday’s shooting along E. 3rd Avenue that sent one man to the hospital in an air ambulance.

Lanett investigators tell News 3 on May 16, at approximately 3:45 pm, police responded to 1221 E 3rd Avenue about a shooting. Officers located the victim, Dustin Short, suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower torso. Short was airlifted to Columbus, Ga for medical treatment and has since been released.

Witness information given at the scene quickly lead to developing, Richard Hugley A.K.A. 240, as the primary person of interest.

Friday, March 17th, investigators with Lanett Police were able to get a warrant for Attempted Murder. Information obtained during the investigation revealed that Hugley was hiding at a residence in Valley, Alabama.  With the assistance of surrounding agencies, Hugley was taken into custody and being held with no bond until seen by a judge.
