Patricia Barnes, the founder of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls, Inc., was in Smiths Station on Monday to see the tornado damage in that community first hand.

She came to Lee County from her home in Andalusia.

“You see it on TV and you say, ‘OK, I can go see this and go do this,'” she said. “When you see it in person and you get out of the car and actually walk around the devastation, it really hits home. You see it and you feel it. And, you talk to the people who walk up and say, ‘Yes, this was my trailer; this was my home. Now., it’s gone. You do hug them. We loved them. We have given them rolls. We have done everything we can do.”

She made a donation to the relief effort from the Barnes Family Foundation. Barnes got a tour from Smiths Station Mayor Bubba Copeland.
