On May 2, the Special Operations Unit of the Columbus Police Department performed Alcohol Compliance checks at 45 Columbus businesses. During these checks, six businesses sold alcohol to “underage minors” and six arrests were made.
The BP Gas Station on Buena Vista Road, the 76 Gas Station on Floyd Road, the MK Mart on Farr Road, the Crown Gas Station on South Lumpkin Road, and the Liberty Gas Station and the Circle K on Fort Benning Road were the locations of the six offenders who were arrested.
“Periodically, the Special Operations Unit conducts operations to ensure businesses and their employees are following the alcohol laws/ordinances of the State of Georgia and the City of Columbus,” said Captain Debra Kennedy of CPD.
According to the press release by Kennedy, the six individuals arrested were Sadyam Thirumala, Priyank Kumar Chaudhari, Ervin Johnson, Lakaysha Edmonds, Virod Kumar, and Vishal Patel.
Additionally, through a special “Crime Suppression Detail” conducted by the unit on May 3-4, 72 arrests were made after CPD followed up on “high crime areas and areas where there have been citizen complaints of criminal activity,” with charges that ranged from “traffic offenses to Trafficking in Ecstasy charges (890 suspected Ecstasy pills with 778.4 grams of marijuana).”
