Suspect arrested in social media school threats

Eufaula, AL - A subject is in custody for making threats on social media toward educational institutions in Eufaula.

A warrant has been obtained in Eufaula for a Georgetown man suspected of making destructive and harmful social media threats directed toward the schools in Eufaula. Levi Junior Calhoun III, 27, of Georgetown, was taken into custody at the Quitman County Sheriff’s Office on a felony warrant for Making a Terrorist Threat (13A-10-15). Calhoun is being held in Georgia awaiting an extradition hearing.

Additional warrants will be obtained and Calhoun will ultimately be charged with 8 felony counts of Making a Terrorist Threat. The generalized nature of the threats and the dangerous content will cause warrants to be obtained for each educational facility that was impacted on Thursday.

Because of the disruption to the city, and the threats to the safety of our students and school staff, the Detectives of the Eufaula Police Department have worked tirelessly since being notified of the post. We appreciate the cooperation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Fusion Center and other Law Enforcement Agencies that assisted in the investigation.
