Troup County Sheriff's Office warns of new scam

TROUP COUNTY, GA - The Troup County Sheriff's Office says there's a scam going on in the community.

Deputies say the scam involves traffic violation notifications.

Officials say people in the area are receiving notices that they have run a school bus stop sign. The notices tells them to buy a money order and send it to an international address to pay the fine.

The Sheriff's Office says this is not the way they conduct business.

If you are caught violating a school bus stop sign, you will receive a citation in the mail with instructions on how to pay the citation or dispute it in court. They will not ask you to send a money order to any address under any circumstances.
